REVIEW: Kill Switch by Penelope Douglas

Genre: Erotic Suspense

Publication Date: February 11, 2019

"I've done far worse than what I went to prison for. She has no idea how bad this can get."

WINTER

Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.

But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.

And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.

He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.

DAMON

First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.

Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.

But that’s not what’s coming.

No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all—my family, her family, my friends—that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.

Starting with her.

She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.

As the new man of the house I have all the keys.

Rating ★★★ ½

I’m not sure if I’m broken or maybe this year I’ve set my reading expectations way too high. Kill Switch was a highly anticipated read for me. It starts off amazing and has me wanting to scream within the first few chapters. Damon is complex, so so complex and I honestly couldn’t decide whether I loved him or hated him. Whether he’s a villain or a victim. No scratch that he’s definitely a villain. But the question is whether or not I could love this villain. Now, Damon and Winters story is roller coaster filled with complete chaos. I love chaos in a book. It’s gives me life and makes me behind excited. I live for drama, and this book definitely has it in spades. I will say that there are twists and turns and man oh man they are killers. Penelope Douglas also writes some of the hottest scenes that I think I’ve read. The ones that make you pause and look up to see if anyone can actually see you having a reaction as your reading. I think I felt myself blushing while at the same time found myself getting a little hot and bothered. Now comes the unfortunate part for me, and make me question if I’m broken or if I have just raised my expectations when I read. This story has so much back and forth it made my head spin a little. Now I understand that for Damons story in particular we were definitely going to have to go from past to present throughout. It’s clear that to understand how he is we would need to see what events turned him into this cold hearted individual that loves toying with people. However, there were moments throughout where I found myself utterly confused. I’m not sure if this was the authors intent or not and I hate to say this, but it made my reading experience less enjoyable. There were a few things that happen that made me question my own sanity and had me rereading to see if I had missed something. Instances that didn’t make sense to me, reactions from the characters that had me thinking what !! How do you not know this ?? I really wanted to love this and I am certain that most fans of this series will. I enjoyed this book and certain moments of it. I loved both Damon and Winter but for me I didn’t quite love the story as it unfolded. There was just too much going on for me to completely lose myself and let the story just take me away. Am I still glad I read it, yes. Will I be wanting to continue with this series. Yes because I need Wills story and I did enjoy this book I just didn’t love it as much as I did Corrupt or Hideaway.
